As a Backend Software Engineer Contractor, you will help the team deliver high-quality solutions for Newsela’s Core curriculum product. You will be working in a fast-paced environment to manipulate different types of content and text data in a myriad of shapes and sizes, as well as work on the extension of a Python service to deliver this content for consumption by downstream systems and UIs.

Lead end to end software delivery including architecture design hands on development testing deployment documentation and production support for our ecommerce platform. Serve as a technical mentor and coach for engineers across levels supporting code reviews technical decisions and skill development. Partner with Product Design and Engineering leadership to deliver scalable user focused features that elevate business value.

As an ML Tech Lead, you'll provide technical leadership and mentorship for our ML engineering team in Colombia. You'll guide technical decisions, ensure code quality, mentor engineers, and help build a culture of technical excellence. While this is not a people-management role, you'll serve as the technical anchor and go-to expert for the team.
